Heartburn in Pregnancy

Got heartburn and reflux? You can thank your hormones again for that… Acid reflux is a result of stomach acid entering the oesophagus (food pipe). This occurs during pregnancy due to changes in the hormone progesterone, which relaxes smooth muscles of the body. As a result, the valve between the stomach and the oesophagus is relaxed and consequently allows some gastric acid to enter the oesophagus and cause a burning sensation.

Antenatal Care

If you haven’t already done so, one of the first appointments to make after you find out you are pregnant should be with your doctor, midwife or obstetrician. Throughout the course of your pregnancy, you will need regular checks to monitor the health of you and your baby. This will include asking you about your health, checking your blood pressure and monitoring your baby's growth.
